Anthony Yamarino – Certified Orthoptist

Orthoptist Explanation: Orthoptists are specialized eye-care professionals who evaluate and treat complex binocular visual disorders. Their training is done under strict guidelines and standards set by the American Orthoptic Council in an academic setting via an orthoptic fellowship. Once their fellowship is complete, they are board certified by a panel of physicians in accordance with mandatory testing parameters.
Orthoptists work closely with ophthalmologists as a mid-level provider to diagnose conditions such as strabismus (eye misalignment), amblyopia (lazy eye), and double vision. Specialized testing and thorough assessments are performed to assist the physician in managing these patients of all ages. Orthoptists can implement the use of non-surgical treatments, which include the use of prisms and other forms of optical correction when necessary. They also play an integral role in pre-surgical management as well as post-operative care when appropriate.
Statistically, there are less than a few hundred certified orthoptists in the United States. Most of them work in academic institutions. This makes for a highly-specialized exam when having your binocular assessment at Eye Physicians of Central Florida.
